Chalk Out Your Roadmap

I don’t really know if my cleaning operation is making the required impact, serving our clients in the best possible manner. I have no data to figure out where we are not best-in-class, leaving me confused and helpless as I don’t know what changes are needed to maximize long-term results.

R

Master Information Overload

Everybody has the best product and the best advice, and there’s plenty of content on what and how to do. Where do I begin? What do I choose? How do I know which will help me the best? The information is not written in a way I can develop and implement a plan specific to my situation to drive positive change.

R

Clarity On Business Goals

I need a development plan in place, but I don’t know how to develop one. How do I go about doing it?  Will the senior authorities approve my plan and support me?  I’m stuck with these questions and unable to create an efficient plan-of-action.

About Me

Hi!

During my 30 years in the professional cleaning industry, I have worked for and with cleaning chemical manufacturers, janitorial distributors, and small to medium-size building service contractors (BSCs). I have also worked with in-house, unionized custodial staffs of K-12 schools, universities, colleges, and other large complex venues. I have trained custodians and managers on how to vastly improve their operations and outcomes. I have witnessed in-house cleaning operations that struggled with improvement and got nowhere only to have their responsibilities outsourced and their departments dismantled.

Why? What makes the difference in results?

Many industry associations, groups, manufacturers, and distributors offer tons of useful information and resources highlighting processes and products. Many also provide training and management strategies to drive greater efficiency, productivity, engagement, and an improved culture.

Despite all the available information, many facility management (FM) executives lack the necessary assessments and data to verify that their cleaning operations consistently deliver clean, safe, and healthy facilities at the lowest overall cost.

With the heightened awareness of the importance of cleaning for health—and the looming threat of another pandemic—it is no longer enough for FM executives to think their departments are doing a good job or believe that their facilities are being properly cleaned and disinfected. FM executives now must be able to prove that their operations are best-in-class. The way to do this is to undergo a thorough assessment of current practices and policies, be prepared to drive whatever changes are necessary for improvement, and then verify your results with reliable data.

Having worked with large, in-house custodial departments, I understand what FM executives of these institutions face. I have successfully resolved these challenges and frustrations by assessing the specific situation and developing an integrated and comprehensive plan to move us from where we were to where we wanted to go. I relied on my in-depth understanding of cleaning and disinfecting protocols and practices, experience building and leading teams, and my overall industry knowledge. To this, I added my tenacious ability to get things done. I used this formula to deliver positive change and desired outcomes.

I now use my professional cleaning industry experience and skills to assist FM Executives and Custodial Services leaders in the education sector with in-house cleaning operations that may be going through the same struggles, how to conduct their site-specific, integrated and comprehensive assessment. Then, based on that assessment, build a prioritized, improvement plan to deliver significant, sustainable, long-term results.

Results in delivering consistently for their facility the highest levels of clean, safe, healthy at the lowest overall costs. And getting to this state faster, easier and with a trusted resource by their side, as and when needed. They can then better enjoy beginning each day more confidently, and feeling less stress, while they enjoy their cup of coffee, smelling the aroma, knowing that they, and their cleaning operation, are at the top of their game, and are being recognized as so, and they will soon enjoy the accolades and future advancements that will come their way.

If you are a FM executive having difficulty verifying your team’s success, I invite you to contact me. I would love to see how we might partner to get you the results and recognition you deserve.

Mike has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Brock University and an MBA from McMaster University. He graduated from UL University’s Lean Sigma Green Belt Training, which included mastering Lean and Six Sigma methodology, and he is a Cleaning Industry Management Standard-ISSA Certified Expert.
